RACING AND TRAINING: It is May and is definitely getting hotter. Be sure to take that extra bottle with you on your long rides and runs. And there will be are lots of “hot” racing opportunities over the next few weeks. The Fit series race is in Sarasota this coming weekend and Mad Beach in the following Sunday. I think we have several members signed up for Mad Beach. And speaking of racing here are our results from last Sunday’s St Anthony’s. Marc Dannis finished in a remarkably fast 2:03:51 which placed him 24th amongst the elite males and 77th overall including the pros. Sandy Guenzel finished 5th in her age group with a 3:14:47. Our other finishers were George McCreary - 2:38:55 (20/28), Keith Nelson - 3:05:47 (214/253), Ty Gruss - 2:35:21 (89/253), Mark Smith - 2:59:34 (19/61), Dan Fluet - 2:45:01 (139/236), Dan Chechele - 2:32:25 (36/191), Chris Panarelli - 2:40:47 (131/288), Laurie Laurino - 3:39:33 (74/87), Gregg Hollstrom - 2:35:27 (91/253), Mark Maxwell - 3:19:08 (236/253), Jeff Chapman - 4:05:02 (61/61), Mike Fortuna - 3:14:32 (61/85), First timer Adam Anderlik - 2:57:13 (18/61), David Blackwood - 2:53:29 (96/191), Maria Colfer - 3:3:48, Lewis Bennett - 2:44:43 (5/18). Congratulations again to all of you.
NEXT MEETING: Our May meeting will be a family picnic. We will have it a park with playground equipment so you can bring the kids. We will also discuss summer training and scheduling.
NEW MEMBER: Join us in welcoming our newest member Jodi Vetter. Jodi’s last race was the Clearwater Half Ironman Championship in 2007. She is looking forward to getting back to training.
TRACK: The word on the street is there were a few sore quads on Thursday. May have been related to the big turnout we had at the track on Wednesday. Maybe we should do the plyos more often? (kidding) Thanks to everyone for making it a good workout.
THURSDAY BRICKS: The bricks at Walsingham are in full swing. They are just sans Coach for a few weeks. Come on out for a great workout.
BIKE WRECK: Mac went down on the bike during Saturday’s ride on the Suncoast. The wreck occurred about 10 or 12 miles from the trailhead and he rode back in so damage to the bike and passenger were not too severe but it was apparently a pretty spectacular event. Glad he is ok – will let you know if there are any updates. You never know when it is going to happen but there is a good chance it will – be careful – and wear your helmet!
